The relationship of Hero and Claudio is one that blossomed out of adoration and compatibility. By this I mean, it was Hero’s beauty that attracted Claudio to her and it was Claudio’s bravery that did it for Hero. Although we didn’t see much private interaction between the two, we did see them together plotting with the prince and Hero’s father to bring Beatrice and Benedick together. In this scene it appears as if they were compatible. However, this was hardly grounds for a solid and trustworthy relationship. Because they were both willing to lie to their trusted allies, albeit for a greater good, so easily shows that there will be room for distrust in the future. Nevertheless, their love and behavior shows that they are a bit childish and therefore a bit innocent and fragile. This is perhaps why it was so easy for Don Julio to successively plot against them and why it was so easy for Claudio to believe the accusation and not question Don Julio’s character.

On the other hand, the relationship of Beatrice and Benedick looks a bit more stable and mature than that of Hero and Claudio. Granted their relationship started out with disdain and a challenge of each other’s wit. Consequently, it is because of this kind of behavior that they led them to better understand and know each other. The hatred that they both shared for each other could be a sign that they both recognize the demise of their persona in each other. Nevertheless, the constant bickering between the two established a bond that is lacking in Hero and Claudio’s relationship.
